
Rockstar
Games is a video game developer and publisher who are based in New York City
they are owned by Take-Two Interactive, fllowing its purchase of British video
game publisher BMG Interactive from Bertelsmann AG. Whilst many of the studios Take-Two
Interactive has acquired have been merged into the Rockstar brand, some of the
recent one have kept their previous identities and have become part of
Take-Twos’ 2K Games division (which includes games such as WWE 2K, Bioshock and
NBA 2K). The brand can mostly be recognised for games including Grand Theft
Auto, Max Payne, Midnight Club and Red Dead series. The Rockstar Games label
was founded in 1998 by the British video game producers Sam House, Dan Houser,
Terry Donovan, Jamie King and Gary Foreman. The Rockstar Games headquarters are
currently located in NYC as part of the Take-Two Interactive office, it is the
head office for Rockstar and is home to the marketing, public relations and
product development departments.

Current studios within Rockstar Games includes Rockstar India, which was created in 2016, however was formerly known as Technicolor India, and Rockstar Leeds, which was created in 2004 and is still running, some of their notable creations include Chinatown Wars, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories. Other current studios include Rockstar Lincoln, which was founded in 1999 and who ensure quality assurance and localisation which is responsible for games testing and translating games developed by Rockstar Games, as well as this they also developed Game Boy Colour videogame Las Vegas Cool Hand, as well as Rockstar Lincoln, Rockstar London, which was created in 2005 has been responsible for the portable adaptation of Midnight Club: Los Angeles, the studio was originally formed for the development of Manhunt 2.

Another
studio which is still running is Rockstar New England, after being founded in
2008, they were responsible for the WII, Xbox 360 and Pc ports of the game
Bully, as well as this Rockstar North, which was created in 1999, although it
was originally founded in 1987 as DMA Design, are famous for the production of
Grand Theft Auto, including the Manhunt franchise and the original Lemmings
game (which was produced under the name DMA Design). Rockstar San Diego was
founded in 2003 and, as part of Rockstar, developed the RAGE engine, Rockstar’s
Table Tennis, the Midnight Club series and both Red Dead Revolver and Red Dead
Redemption. Finally, the last current running studio is Rockstar Toronto, who,
after being created in 1999, are most famous for The Warriors, which was an
adaption of the classic film, as well as the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV
and Episodes from Liberty City.

Former
Studios of Rockstar Games include, Rockstar Japan, who were present for 2005
only, was a label created between Rockstar and Capcom, who previously held
exclusive distribution rights to the Grand Theft Auto series in Japan, Rockstar
Vancouver, which lasted from 2002-2012, merged with Rockstar Toronto in 2012,
they were responsible for the PlayStation 2 title Bully and Max Payne 3, and
Rockstar Vienna, which lasted from 2003-2006, they were previously responsible
for porting the Max Payne series to consoles, as well as creating some of
Manhunt 2 before being closed down.
